it’s to die for banana bread – Official Treat Supplier for VIP Gift Bags

Our VIP Guests will enjoy its to die for banana bread in their Gift Bags at “A Modern Classic” fashion event!  The talent and beauty behind this mouthwatering creation is Erin Ireland.  Here is a clip from her website’s bio:

“I’m the food reporter and  lover of cuisine who aspires to spend the rest of her life eating all that’s to die for. You’ll find my column, Lunch Rush, in Metro Newspaper’s Tuesday edition, and my bi-monthly to die for face feature in Vancouver View Magazine.

A summer spent living on a rustic Tuscan horse farm experiencing the powers of extra virgin olive oil, red wine, and homemade chocolate gelato has been one of my most exquisite culinary practicums.

Known to evoke my ‘it’s to die for’ cry: sablefish, macadamia nuts, white chocolate, braised lamb, ponzu sauce, sashimi, and more…

If you believe your restaurant’s fare to be to die for, email me at erin@itstodie4.com. I’ll add it to my list of impending feeds.

Find me at Commune Cafe & Ethical Bean Coffee Roastery Cafe. I’m putting Vancouver on the banana bread map of the world. You can call me BB! Taste my sweet saltiness at Commune Cafe & Ethical Bean Coffee Roastery Cafe.”

Fashion Philanthropy

At Malene Grotrian Design we strive to make a positive impact in our community by supporting charities and non-profit organizations in a variety of ways. We are very proud to work strategically with local and national organizations to give back in a philanthropic way.

Our involvement with local charitable organizations, events and fundraisers is a very important component of our business. We take pride in our participation and whenever possible, we are more than happy to contribute anywhere we can to help.

Since opening our doors in our Gastown atelier we’ve taken part of a number of events across Vancouver.

Gala. Glam. Give. was an amazing evening supporting Ovarian Cancer Canada. A special runway show showcased custom couture designs, modelled by noted local celebrities including Dawn Chubai, Jody Vance, Pamela Martin, Fanny Kiefer, Vicki Gabereau, Ashleigh McIvor, Erin Cebula and other noted local celebrities.

Watch the fashion show here. View the photo gallery from our website here.

This past April we held a Spring Forward Connecting & Fashion Event supporting Cancer Awareness Month. It was a fantastic afternoon of networking, mingling and fashion. Guests enjoyed wonderful networking opportunities, a fashion show featuring our Spring/Summer 2011 collection, tasty chocolate treats from CoCoa Nymph Chocolatier, champagne upon arrival and a cupcake upon departure.  We worked closely with a small team of business women to co-ordinate this event.

Check out the event gallery here.

We are so proud to be apart of our community and we’re always excited and ready to help support great charities and foundations looking to make a positive impact to all the people in our city. If you’re interested in collaborating we are very eager to explore new possibilities in partnering with organizations to create successful charity events.

Introducing Beatrice King and Fall/Holiday 2010!

Beatrice King

Actress and model Beatrice King is the beauty behind showcasing the upcoming Fall/Holiday 2010 Collection from Malene Grotrian Design. The stunning Alberta native is a rising start that has been featured in several Hollywood films including X-Men Origins- Wolverine and most recently she  has gained incredible exposure from the latest Coke Zero International television commercial.

The Fall/Holiday 2010 Collection from Malene Grotrian Designs centres itself on the elements of ice and water, featuring structured tailoring that focuses on creating an hourglass silhouette. Beatrice’s smouldering dark eyes play off the steel greys, earthy browns, silvers and blacks of the collection. The catalogue for this latest collection drapes Beatrice in delicate silk Charmeuse, light wool suiting, luxurious Italian Silk Jacquards, Raw silk, textured knits and virgin wool garments. Keep a look out for the upcoming launch of the Fall/Holiday 2010 collection and possibly seeing Beatrice on the catwalk.

The outcome of the amazing catalogue can be attributed to Toranj Kayvon  of Toranj Kayvon Photography for capturing the moment, Caylee Wasilenk from Hype Hair Studio for creating 1940s hair magic and Abby Jayne Black for bringing together the makeup look to portray the feel of Malenes collection. A very special thank you goes out to FMA Entertainment Weekly for coming onsite to interview Malene on the sailboat during the shoot! They really got a feel for the icy, cool water theme. Be sure to check out the website for details on the upcoming Ice Water Fashion Event on April 29th!

Preview Malene’s Spring Line

What’s Been Happening

After her work was noticed by someone who knew the producer for the New York Metropolitan show at Vancouver Fashion Week in March 2009, Malene Grotrian was invited to the Metropolitan show on West 18th street as a part of New York Fashion Week in September 2009. As coined by the Vancouver Sun, Grotrian is the very first Vancouver designer to show in New York during Fashion Week.

She will be showing her spring 2010 line, tailored pieces featuring silks and a neutral, pastel palette. Her signature bustiers will be making an appearance. Grotrian describes her new line as a western, Scandinavian simplicity mixed with a touch of Japanese style. She has been focusing on a softer, more feminine look. Fashion Week runs from September 10th to 18th.

Grotrian is being sponsored by Fluevog Shoes, a company that began by happy chance back at the ripe old age of 1970. John Fluevog has built the business into a multinational corporation, forging a name for himself as a creator of some of the world’s most distinctive shoes. For more information on Fluevog, or to see where you can pick up a pair of his shoes for yourself, visit their website: Fluevog

Malene will be pairing up with Jane Monteiro, a textiles artist and fledgling jewelry designer. Monteiro has been hard at work putting together classic, timeless pieces that will meld with Grotrian’s designs. Like Grotrian, this will be Monteiro’s first experience in New York Fashion Week. You can view her work here: Toranj Kayvon

Sujin Park is a freelance fashion, hair, and make-up stylist based in Vancouver. She will be providing make-up and hair styling for Malene’s models. Park’s work has been featured in various print media in fashion editorials. Each year Park travels around the world to new destinations to soak up the culture and get a different perspective. She incorporates this into her work. Her favorite color is red, and it shows. You can visit her website here: Sujin Styles

Malene will be holding another show back home in Vancouver on September 24th at Canvas Lounge, so if you can’t make it to her show in New York, be sure not to miss this one! Fluevog Shoes also sponsors.
